5 Volunteer Opportunities That Will Make You Want to Help

WoodmenLife members give back in their own communities, sharing in the organization's commitment to family, community and country.

When you’re looking to volunteer, it may be difficult to know where to start. You look for companies that give back when making purchases, but you can also find incredibly rewarding volunteer opportunities with WoodmenLife, the life insurance company that gives back.

We are thoughtful about the ways we give back. Our philosophy is two-fold:

We keep it local. WoodmenLife makes a difference in the communities where our members* work, live and worship.

We focus our efforts. Everything we do is based on a shared commitment to family, community and country.

The Volunteer Opportunities

Help fight hunger in your hometown.

One thing we all band together for at WoodmenLife is our National Community Focus of fighting hunger. Hunger is a serious problem in every community in America, and we’re doing our part to help.

We launched this focus in 2015, and in just the first couple years, we’ve collected more than 500,000 pounds of food and nearly $900,000. We have much more to do, and our members, staff and sales associates are dedicated to the effort.

Tap into your patriotic side.

At WoodmenLife, America is part of our identity. We were founded to help American families, and we’re still doing that more than 125 years later. It’s important to us to recognize this great country we live in and those who protect our freedoms.

One of the ways you can get involved in our patriotic activities is by participating in our presentations of U.S. flags to worthy nonprofit organizations. In fact, we’re the country’s largest private donor of U.S. flags, second only to our national government. We’ve presented more than 3 million flags since 1947.

You can also take part in honoring our veterans and first responders through patriotic ceremonies, including In Honor and Remembrance ceremonies on 9/11.

Volunteer as a family.

Some organizations limit volunteer activities by age, but at WoodmenLife we encourage you to bring the whole family. Local chapters organize activities like cleaning up parks, delivering care packages or providing assistance after a natural disaster.

Just this year, our chapters have held 7,443 community service events. We also offer organized events your family can enjoy, like trips to ball games and amusement parks.

Donate to a local community improvement project or individual in need.

If you’re short on time, you can donate money on RedBasket.org, the nonprofit crowdfunding website powered by WoodmenLife. WoodmenLife covers administrative fees, so 100 percent of your donation will go to the cause you choose.

Support local nonprofits.

Our local chapters form partnerships with local organizations that need assistance. You can help plan events to aid these organizations, or even take on a leadership role as a chapter officer.
